Barberino Val d'Elsa
Barberino Val d'Elsa is located in the district of Florence, at the border with the district of Siena, on the Cassia Street. It is part of Chianti Fiorentino with other four villages. The famous Chianti wine is produced on these sweet hills with its different form: Chianti classico, Chianti Colli Fiorentini etc.
A hill dominates Barberino to remember the ancient magnificent of the town of Semifonte, the village that once dared the rising of Florence and has been destroyed. In memory to this event a church was built on the hill: it is the identical copy of the Brunelleschi's famous cupola, but 8 times smaller.
Barberino is a pretty village with still today its medieval structure with two gates: Fiorentina and Senese, the towers, the walls, the Palazzo Barberini. Barberino is located on the Cassia way, street that from the Francigena way on downhill brought to Badia a Passignano and Florence.
The landscape is one of the best attraction of these places, but the real charms are the little villages in the countryside surrounding Barberino: Sant'Appiano with its Romanesque Priory and remains of Baptistery; Petrognano the ancient village of Semifonte; Tignano a small walled hamlet; Vico d'Elsa with its noble palaces, Monsanto with its imposing castle; and Marcialla, San Filippo, Cortine, Pastine, Poppiano with their own particular treasure to discover.
